We managed to wake up around lunch and after a lot of coffee we started working properly. On the road we discovered that the police in Batumi uses Mini Cooper cars and we saw another impressive building, the White Restaurant, an upside down building. We met Naren and Jasmine in the parking lot of their hotel and we made a mini caravan for the first time in Mongol Rally. We followed them but we late discovered that they actually did not know how to get out from Batumi.

We decided to look for the exit and in the end we managed to do it. The road to Tbilisi was quite difficult and jammed but also full of police. We were quite surprised to realize that the police was only surveying the traffic but not interfering at all. On the road we had some small stops to regroup and to buy some stuff from the road sellers. We took some pictures with some enthusiastic ones. They looked quite excited to our story but we are not that sure how much they actually understood what it is about.

When it started to get dark we were arriving in Gori, the native city of Stalin and we stopped on a fortress on a heel. There was nothing there to remember us that actually many years ago Russians inhabited this city.

When we left the city to let again Naren to lead us and again we found out that he had no idea which is the right way. We were heading back to Batumi. We tried to send him signals and we horn but in the end we decided to make a u turn on the highway. The police did not see us, and Naren as well. We sent him a SMS as explicit as possible and we continued driving. It looks like we are not performing in column, at least not in the back.

Naren realized he is heading the wrong way after 50 km and then he finally turned back to Tbilisi.

We found easily the David Sultan hotel. We drove Yurty on some narrow streets and full of parked cars in a wrong way. The effort was paid, as at the hotel the people waited for us with a warming encounter and they helped us with all we needed. Yurty got a place in an interior court so all was good. Tbilisi is fabulous the only thing that did not go that good was our search for a traditional restaurant. We even found a wonderful Café de France. The funny thing is that the waiter was telling us that they only serve Italian food. We decided to eat in a nice place called People’s and we went in a city mini tour around 3 a.m. Of course I was sleeping again at that hour and I missed the mini tour. But considering that my somnambular actions are quite good, I managed to find the way back to hotel quite ok.

Good night Tbilisi!
